Journeys to Financial Literacy

how small steps transformed lives — and the advice for you

Confirmation Bias

  • What: Tendency to seek information that agrees with what you already believe.

  • Effect: Ignoring facts that contradict your assumptions; leads to blind spots and bad forecasts.

  • Example: You believe cryptocurrency will rise, so you only read bullish blogs and ignore warnings about scams or volatility.

  • Avoid:

    • Use “consider-the-opposite” thinking (ask, “What if I’m wrong?”).

    • Assign someone to “red-team” or challenge your idea.

Require yourself to find one credible disconfirming source before deciding.
